NEC 2016 Homebuilding Show

The Homebuilding and Renovation show was on at the NEC in Birmingham at the weekend, so I went along to that to see a lot of the products I was thinking of getting in the flesh.
As we entered, the first stall I wanted to see was Hormann Doors. From their catalog I had decided I wanted their Thermocarbon door, style 312. This is a 10cm thick door, but I had had no idea how much they would cost. Well, I now know it will be a minimum of £3,500 which is way outside my budget. Also, looking at their doors, while they look fantastic I don’t actually think they would suit my property.

Further along though was totali solutions. Look at this door.

Now, that would suit my property. I want it!
But, that is hitting the £2,000 mark

The other main thing I am looking at is balustrading for the external staircase. My original plan, and the one I have given to my architect and structural engineer is for the staircase to look something like this.

But I am having trouble to get anybody to give me an idea on prices. I was having doubts though that it would be too modern for my property.
I also like this style.

At the show were several companies showing the glass and steel balustrading. The average cost is around £150 per meter section which isn’t too bad. But, having seen so many in one day I’ve gone off them. More traditional would be better.

British Spirals and Castings had a stand, and theirs was a cast aluminium staircase with balcony. This would look good. Annoyingly I didn’t take any photos of it. A couple from their website.

But this could cost around £20,000 which is twice my budget. I have completely underestimated the price of a good looking staircase – or I’ve gone too big.

I either need to reorganise the budget or lower my sights. Just galvanised steel.
